Davids Story
I was brought up outdoors, in the Northwoods of Minnesota and North Shore of Lake Superior. You could find me on a skateboard, fishing, or taking photos. Growing up, I framed houses, built saunas, and honed woodworking skills; this gave me confidence on the tools. Castle Glass was born out of necessity and passion for building.
I started surfing in college with the UMD Surf Club. After gaining some skills, I wanted to expand my board collection and knowledge, so mentor Randy Carlson introduced me to Terry Senate. Terry took me under his wing and taught me about Longboards and Fish shapes. A couple years later I got to meet and shape at Dave Johnsons, Progressive Surfboards, along with Jack Woolf. They were instrumental in teaching me polyester resin techniques.
In 2019, I moved to Port Angeles, where I took up snowboard finishing at Mervin Manufacturing, and night shifts at Chris Bauers Last Stop Glass Shop. Bauer instilled the PROduction work ethic heavily, leading to better efficiency and professionalism. Later in 2020, I met Scott Rowley, and I was able to work for him on sanding and finishing boards. Frothing and humbled, I am so thankful to those who believed in me enough to show me their way of doing things. Work trips combined with supply runs feel like the future of Castle Glass.
Castle Glass is about working for the people; on Lake Superior and beyond.
